1968 Plymouth Road Runner - 383ci, 4-speed, fully restored, runs and drives excellent. The team at LaFontaine Classic Cars proudly presents this stunning 1968 Road Runner just released and now available! Here is a great opportunity to own one of the most iconic muscle cars of the era - not to mention one of the nicest examples available on the market today. The late 1960's was a time when factory built ""muscle"" cars ruled the streets and drag strips across the country, this was a time when the Big 3 were competing with each other for street dominance - this required the design and production of cars with big horsepower at the lightest weight possible. For 1968, Plymouth designed just that - and named it ""Road Runner"" based on the actual cartoon character because of its symbol of speed. Chrysler purchased the rights to the name from Warner Brothers for $50,000.00 back then to many people's surprise. This ""new"" model was a no frills, minimally optioned, ""mid-sized"" car that would accommodate the whole family during the week, but when the weekend came around, it was time to prove who was fast. The Road Runner, with its available high horsepower V8 engines, quickly became a contender for street dominance, and the rest is history. This Road Runner was subject to a very extensive restoration during prior ownership, it began by stripping the body down to bare metal. Next, the talented crew spent countless hours prepping the sheet metal for the original, factory color code ""RR-1"" Burgundy Poly. The color was sprayed in multiple coats resulting in an incredible ""deep"" finish, with smooth and straight panels from front to rear. Exterior reassembly was performed utilizing brand new or refurbished components including front and rear chrome bumpers, stainless trim and moldings, all light lenses and bezels, as well as new emblems and badging. Looking underneath you will find new suspension components including rear leaf springs and bushings, front torsion bars, upper/lower control arms with bushings, and more. Under the front end, there are new steering components, tie rods, and sway bar with links, all installed to provide a new car look and new car ride. Stopping duties are handled by new brake components on all 4 corners, including new lines, hoses, master cylinder, and of course new fluid. Under the hood is the 383ci big block, rebuilt to stock specifications and topped off by a single 4-barrel carburetor producing a factory horsepower rating of 330 with 425 ft lbs of torque. This power level makes for a great driving car around town or on the highway - then, if the need to floor it occurs, that torque will keep you ahead of the competition. Delivering the power to the factory 8 "" rear differential spinning 3.23 gears, is the go-to A833 Chrysler 4-speed transmission that has also undergone a complete rebuild. As expected, the interior has been totally refurbished in its factory color burgundy with new seat covers front and rear, matching carpet and headliner, new door and kick panels, along with the refurbished dash board and gauge cluster to monitor that big V8 engine. Factory options include: Remote side view mirror, power steering, factory tachometer, and tinted windshield. Wheels are factory 14x7 chrome Magnums wrapped with matching Firestone red-line, bias-ply tires on all 4 corners giving that stock look as it rolled off the assembly line. This is one gorgeous '68 Road Runner inside and out - top to bottom. The engine runs strong while the 4-speed shifts are very smooth, making this one an absolute joy to drive.
