NO RESERVE HAS TITLE 1959 Edsel Ranger 4 Door Sedan "Never before has a low priced car offered so much luxury, at no extra cost. Every Edsel Ranger gives you the poised big car ride of an extra long wheelbase chassis. It's a luxury that means more to you with every mile you drive, and no other car in the low price range matches it. Best of all, every Ranger model gives you the satisfying distinction and workmanship of a quality car. And it speaks exactly that way about you." From the 1959 Edsel sales brochure For auction a 1959 Edsel Ranger 4 door sedan with a title verified 57,655 actual miles. This car presents in good restorable condition and has keys, but the hood release is broken so we were unable to hook power to the engine. Exterior The car wears an eye- catching President Red and while the paint is in generally nice condition, there are some large areas where a different shade of red was used. The artfully designed trim starts as a spear on the front fender and trails back to a Snow White stripe bordered by the stainless which all comes to a point to become a single stainless spear all the way to the rear edge. Trim also contours to the decklid, and the shape is mirrored in the chrome bumper below, each sandwiching triple tail lights backed by a textured metal nacelle with pointed ends extending outward. Curved glass has the windshield and rear window wrapping the sides and the C-pillar is dressed in yet more trim. Up front, the distinctive grille houses quad headlights with polished brows over a split front bumper and it's all in very good condition. Interior Long term storage where the car was unused has caused some mold to bloom on the inside, starting with the black and gray vinyl door panels which are all intact but speckled with the mold. The gray vinyl and plaid cloth bench seats look decent until you sit down and realize the cloth is dry and easily disintegrated and the stuffing also is crispy rather than soft. On the upper portion, mold is the main detraction as the material is otherwise intact, and this is the condition we find on the rear bench as well. Black carpet on the floor along with red rubber mats are in dirty but passable condition. Up front, the dash shows some patina but its ornate design and mirror like trim still shines through with a black dash cap that contours to the instrumentation. The mid panel contains the vent panel and AM radio with ivory buttons, along with a clock while the polished trim continues on its way to top the glove box. The huge trunk is clean and lined with a plaid mat and houses a loose jack. Drivetrain Under the hood, which cannot be opened due to a broken release, is a 292ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and rated at 200 horsepower. Edsel touted the Mile-O-Matic 2 speed automatic transmission which is on board sending power the Ford 9" in back with 3.10 gears. Undercarriage Drum brakes occupy all four wheels and a single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back. Drive-Ability Due to a broken hood latch release, we were not able to get inside to add power or starting fluid.
