Introduced for 1963, it was still a traditionally crafted luxury automobile with wood-framed bodywork with a surpassingly comfortable leather-lined interior featuring a library’s worth of Burled Walnut. The engine, improved over the previous Silver Cloud II, was the epitome of the Rolls-Royce ideal of gradual refinement of a design and is reassuringly silent at any RPM. Yet, this model also represented the company’s first nods towards contemporary styling, with quad headlamps, a lowered hood and radiator shell, smaller bumpers, and separate front seats. As indicated by copies of Rolls-Royce factory documentation, this Silver Cloud III was delivered new to Mrs. K.S. Beinecke on 14 October 1963. A resident of New York’s glamourous Fifth Avenue, Mrs. Beinecke married into the family that ran the Sperry & Hutchinson company, known for its S&H Green Stamps—a popular retail loyalty rewards program. Following Mrs. Beinecke’s ownership tenure, this Silver Cloud III’s next owner of record was William J. Farnbauch of Lake Worth, Florida, an enthusiast who maintained a stable of vintage Rolls-Royces and Bentleys. It was subsequently acquired by Woody Richey, also of Florida, a noted collector and enthusiastic Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club participant. In 1994, it was purchased by Leon Farmer, Jr., a businessman and philanthropist residing in Athens, Georgia; correspondence on file from the time of purchase described it as a fully restored “100 point show car”. One of only 206 long-wheelbase examples produced, this Silver Cloud III was an ideal companion for Mrs. Beinecke's high-society lifestyle. Finished in Brewster Green and featuring wide whitewall tires, the car presents a very elegant exterior. Beige Connolly Vaumol leather upholstery lines both front and rear compartments which were separated by a glass divider. Modern conveniences include electric windows and an electric antenna; and factory air conditioning. This exquisite example was just released from a respected world-class collection and is now ready for its next caretaker. Seldom do Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III long wheelbase examples ever come up for sale, especially in this incredible color combination and high-level show-quality restoration.
