Vehicle description

This custom 1965 Mercury Comet was built in the style of the limited-production factory A/FX Cyclones produced for the 1964-65 racing seasons. The build was completed by Randy Delisio's Performance & Restoration of Lyons, NY, and features an all-aluminum 482ci V8 engine from Robert Pond Motorsport paired with a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9-inch limited-slip rear end with 4.57 gears. A dyno sheet shows the engine producing 628hp at 5,800 rpm and 629 ft/lbs of torque at 4,700 rpm. Engine components include an rpm block with Scat cast-steel crankshaft, Scat H-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts, CP-Carillo pistons with 10.5:1 compression, Crane hydraulic roller lifters, Smith Brothers pushrods, Erson roller rocker arms and CNC-ported Stage II cylinder heads with 2.19-inch intake and 1.74-inch exhaust valves. The engine also features a Fast XFI fuel-injection system with individual throttle bodies and velocity stacks, four-into-one HTP exhaust headers with two pipes crossing to the opposite collectors and into a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and a Canton 7-quart oil pan with trap doors. Fuel-injection tuning was completed by Injection Connection of Horsham, PA, and the engine is tuned to run on pump gas. The body features fiberglass front fenders, bumper and A/FX-style hood, refinished in black. Staggered chrome 15-inch Cragar S/S wheels are fitted with 26x7.5 Hoosier Pro Street radials up front and 295/65 Mickey Thompson slicks at the rear. The braking system consists of four-wheel disc brakes, and a fuel cell is mounted in the trunk. The interior is finished in red vinyl upholstery with color-matched door panels and dash, replacing the factory black trim. The rear seat was deleted, and matching carpet installed. Equipment includes a Hurst floor shifter with cueball knob, dash-top Sun Super Tach, auxiliary oil pressure and temperature gauges, ignition and fuel toggle switches with flip-up guards and a push-button start. This Cyclone has been driven 469 miles since completion. The sale includes a copy of the dyno sheet.
