Vehicle description

NO RESERVE NO TITLE, BILL OF SALE ONLY 1965 Renault Dauphine 4 Door Sedan The Renault Dauphine was a popular French economy car produced from 1956 to 1967, known for its rear engined design, simple mechanics, and distinctive styling. It was a successor to the Renault 4CV and sold over two million units worldwide and was the basis for several variants, including the sporty Gordini, the luxury Ondine, and the convertible Floride/Caravelle. For auction, a 1965 Renault Dauphine 4 door sedan showing 29,376 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one presents in good condition with a fairly straight body and complete interior and engine. Due to the air cooled rear engine, some have created VW powered resto modded street machines with these cars, but this one retains its stock configuration. The car cranks but does not start for us. Exterior Single stage black paint does its best to shine, but long term storage and swirl marks have impacted the overall quality and some careful buffing will be needed to bring it back. There's some loose trim and some bubbling on the rear hatch, and a dent on the front right fender, but the chrome bumpers and their tubular risers and original Renault emblems are present with just a touch of patina. The inboard round headlights give the car instant recognition, and the side intake ducts are a unique feature and we like to believe they inspired the wild intakes of the Renault 5 rally car. 15-inch wheels are Renault specific and carry Michelin tires. Interior Blue grain vinyl is formed to make the door cards on all four doors, adorned with ivory hardware with the fronts a slightly different shade and some looseness on all, but otherwise intact. The material covers the front bucket seats and the rear bench with the driver's seat showing some compression and all have a light coat of mold from long term storage. This bloom also appears throughout including the steering wheel and column. The wheel is missing its center cap and leads to a very simple instrument cluster with speedometer numbers handwritten on the glass. A cubby hole for your French cigarettes is on the left and a Renault branded AM radio to the right. The wide glove box now houses its own door and the dash pad itself is in decent condition and so are the floors, covered in a textured rubber mat and housing the modest shifter. The front trunk has rust on its floor which does not appear to have broken through and houses a battery up on the firewall. Drivetrain Out back is the 845cc inline air cooled four cylinder rated at 30 horsepower and fueled via a 1-barrel carburetor. A 3-speed manual keeps power at the back and routes it through 4.37 gears. Undercarriage A single exhaust carries a stock style muffler and terminates through a smallish tailpipe under the rear bumper. Drum brakes are found on all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs in front and swing arm with coil springs in the back. Drive-Ability This little Frenchie will crank but we could not get it to start.
