Vehicle description

NO RESERVE NO TITLE, BILL OF SALE ONLY 1968 Pontiac GTO Hardtop GM completely refreshed the A-Body platform on which the GTO rides for 1968. It was a welcome change, leaving behind the boxiness of the 1964-67 models in favor of the softer, curvier Coke bottle style popularized in the later part of the '60s. Pontiac's styling department also went to town on the GTO, setting it far apart from the competition. The biggest innovation to the GTO's look was the introduction of the revolutionary Endura Bumper, a GTO exclusive. Up for auction is a 1968 Pontiac GTO showing 39,050 miles, but the true miles are unknown. The car presents on just this side of barn find condition with some rust but a relatively complete interior. There is, however, the numbers matching 400 under the hood. Exterior The car is painted Meridian Turquoise and it's mostly dull with plenty of surface rust panels, especially horizontal facing areas such as the roof and decklid. We note some rust through on the left rear corner. The rear bumper, which also houses the tail lights, will need to be replated and the rocker trim is all in place. Dual intake scoops top the hood which has a center lift that blends into the Pontiac beak up front, splitting the grille and housing a quad headlight set up. The GTO rides on 14-inch steel wheels. Interior Teal door panels show age with some discoloration, worn kick panels, and some missing pieces, however their GTO emblems are present. Front bucket seats are mostly intact with wear on the driver's seat including the piping and a tear in the vinyl. The passenger seat and rear bench show age and the teal loop carpet below will definitely need a refresh The dash pad is cracked and the headliner is barely hanging on and torn. A simulated woodgrain faceplate backs round gauges and metallic knobs in the instrument cluster, all showing some patina. In the center console, the epic dual gate Hurst His and Hers shifter allows "him" to shift and "her" to enjoy the convenience of an automatic transmission. Drivetrain It's dusty and dirty, but it has the numbers matching 400ci V8 under the hood rated at 350 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the 10 bolt rear axle. Drum brakes are employed front and rear. Undercarriage Dual exhaust leave the 400 and travel through stock style mufflers while the suspension is a 4 link with coil springs in back and an independent coil spring arrangement up front. Drive-Ability This legend of the muscle car world cranks but does not start and presents as a restorable classic with decent bones. 242378B116730 2-Pontiac 42-GTO 37-2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe 8-1968 B-Baltimore, MD Assy Plant 116730-Sequential Unit Number Sale conducted by Geyer Auction Companies Pennsylvania license number AY-000243-L Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!).
