Vehicle description
Compact yet sleek, with a look that borrows from both American and European styling influences, this 1970 Opel GT isn't a car that's likely to get lost in a crowd. It's clad in a tasteful red exterior and features flowing lines and a smooth, fastback taper down to its deck lid, giving it a timeless appearance that instantly makes a positive impression. Up front, a pair of sizable flip-up headlights rise laterally with no issue at all, while just below, a pair of fog lights stand ready to light the way forward in difficult driving conditions. You don't see many of these GTs around these days, largely because Opel only made about 100,000 of them during the model's entire original six-year run, so their scarcity is undeniable. Climb inside and you'll notice that the interior really shows nicely. The bucket seats wear cloth upholstery that's free from any noticeable staining and still offer plenty of comfort for extended driving sessions, with high backs to provide plenty of support. Take a look through the spokes of the Racemark steering wheel, and you'll find an assembly of factory gauges that still seem to be working just as intended and report their information through clear lenses. Mounted at the center of the dash is a Pioneer AM/FM stereo that features a USB port and Bluetooth connectivity, and it pairs with a set of rear-mounted Bose speakers to provide a strong audio experience. The 1.9-liter engine on this classic sounds nice and healthy. It fires right up, and the combination of a recently added shorty header and StreetMax muffler provides a deep, aggressive sound and improved exhaust flow. Both the clutch action and shift linkage also feel very solid. Opel GTs got good notices for their handling when they were first released, and a lot of that agility comes from their low profile, combined with an engine that's set farther back than the norm for ideal weight distribution. To offer an extra measure of confidence in real-world driving conditions, an entirely new brake system was also added, including the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers, and pads.
